Why this page exists

Social media advice is an unusually low-trust category. Most of it is recycled, undated, unsourced and written to rank rather than to inform. Publishing our standard makes it possible to hold us to it.

How we handle claims

  • Platform behaviour is described from documented limits and observed, reproducible behaviour. Where something is inferred rather than documented, the writing says so.
  • Numbers are either calculable from our own published formula or clearly labelled as estimates. We do not present invented figures as data.
  • Uncertainty is stated plainly. "We do not know" is an acceptable sentence and appears in several guides.
  • Received wisdom gets challenged when it is wrong. Several articles exist specifically to argue against popular advice.

What we will not publish

  • Guaranteed-growth claims, follower promises or engagement forecasts.
  • Exact hashtag post counts, since no public API supplies them across the platforms we cover.
  • Content spun or rewritten from competitors. Everything here is written from scratch for this site.
  • Articles padded to hit a word count. Where a topic is genuinely short, the article is short.
  • Undisclosed paid placement. Nothing on this site has been paid for by a third party.

Dates and freshness

Every guide and article carries a publication date, and guides carry an update date when they have been revised. Platform behaviour changes; an undated article about social media is a warning sign, so we do not publish any.

Corrections

Factual errors are corrected as soon as they are confirmed, and substantive corrections are reflected in the article's update date rather than made silently. If a correction changes the conclusion of a piece, we say so in the text rather than quietly editing around it.

Report anything wrong via the contact form or hello@hashtag.net. Corrections are the highest-priority category of message we receive.

Independence and funding

This site carries no advertising, no sponsored posts and no affiliate links. It has no commercial relationship with any platform, agency or software vendor. The generator is free because it is inexpensive to run, not because you are the product.

Use of automation

The generator is algorithmic by design and we explain exactly how it works. Editorial content is written and reviewed by people; where any tooling assists with drafting, the claims, structure and conclusions are checked by a human before publication, and the responsibility for accuracy is ours either way.
