Our position

Every guide, article, FAQ answer and line of code on this site was written for this site. We do not republish other people's articles, host user uploads, or mirror third-party media. If something here appears to infringe your copyright, it is far more likely to be an error than a business model — and we will act on it quickly.

Hashtags themselves

Individual hashtags are short functional strings and are not copyrightable subject matter. Generated tag sets are not claimed by us and are not infringing on anyone. Registered trademarks are a separate matter: if a tag incorporates your mark and is being used in a way that causes confusion, the section below applies.

Filing a notice

Send the following to hello@hashtag.net with the subject line "DMCA notice":

1. A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or an authorised agent.
2. Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed.
3. The exact URL on this site where the material appears, specific enough for us to locate it.
4. Your name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised by the owner, its agent or the law.
6. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are authorised to act on the owner's behalf.

What happens next

Valid notices are typically acted on within two working days. We will remove or disable access to the material and notify anyone responsible for it. If the claim is clearly correct, we usually resolve it before the formal process finishes — the goal is fixing the problem, not litigating it.

Counter-notice

If material was removed in error, send a counter-notice to the same address including your signature, identification of the removed material and its former location, a statement under penalty of perjury that removal resulted from mistake or misidentification, and your contact details with consent to the jurisdiction of an appropriate court.

Misuse

Knowingly filing a false claim of infringement carries liability for damages under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f). We keep records of all notices received, and we do not remove accurate criticism because someone found it inconvenient.

Trademarks

Platform names used on this site — Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Threads — are the trademarks of their respective owners, used descriptively to identify which platform a feature relates to. No affiliation or endorsement is claimed or implied.
