HastagNet – Tesla founder Elon Musk announced that his company’s electric cars can be purchased with Bitcoin, the world’s most popular cryptocurrency.
“Tesa only uses internal software and advanced sources and operates Bitcoin nodes directly,” Musk said in a tweet on his Twitter account, @elonmusk, on Wednesday (24/3/2021).
“Bitcoins paid to Tesla will be retained as Bitcoin, not converted to fiat currency,” he added.
The announcement was greeted with a variety of reactions by netizens. Some praised Musk’s decision, others made it a meme joke, and others reminded Musk of other cryptocurrencies.
“Will Tesla employees have the possibility to get paid with Bitcoin in the future?” asked one account, jokingly.
Tesla previously bought Bitcoin for $1.5 billion which caused its value to rise significantly. Earlier this month, Bitcoin rose above 60 thousand U.S. dollars, setting a new trading record.
Overall, the currency has gained more than 700 percent since January 2020. (red)
